A Report On C-E Consecutive Interpreting Of The Seminar Course On Tourism Industry Cooperation For China And BIMP-EAGA In 2014

This paper is a report on the C-E Consecutive Interpreting of the Seminar Course on Tourism Industry Cooperation for China and BIMP-EAGA in 2014. This international exchange seminar was initiated by the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China and hosted by Guangxi International Business Vocational College. Among the topics, the author is responsible for the interpreting of topics on“Development and construction of tourist attraction”, “Development and design of tourism product” The seminar’s addressors are prominent figures from the Guangxi government and the colleges and universities in Guangxi, participants are experts and government officials from ASEAN countries excluding Singapore and Brunei.This interpreting practice has been carried out under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory of Translation, which proposed three steps in interpreting, namely,understanding, deverbalization and reproduction. It highlights the interpreter’s task of delivering the speaker’s intended meaning and emotion to realize a smooth communication between different language speakers rather than conducting a wordfor-word interpretation. The report begins with an introduction to the background of the speakers and attendees and describes the interpretation process from the three aspects of pre-task preparation, on-spot interpreting and post-task evaluation. On the basis of the hypothesis of deverbalization in the Interpretive Theory of Translation,this report makes a detailed analysis of the typical examples and the crucial role of the cognitive supplement in interpreting. Last but not least, the report also makes a delicate exploration of the deficiency and problems in this interpreting practice and summarizes their corresponding coping tactics.
