A Report On Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Of "The Press Conference Of The 2020 Hunan(International) Cultural Tourism Industry Exposition-Investment And Financing Conference Of The Hunan Cultural Tourism Industry"

This practice report is based on the live audio of the press conference of “2020Hunan(International)Cultural Tourism Industry Exposition--Investment and Financing Conference of Hunan Cultural Tourism Industry”.The author completes it by means of simulated consecutive interpretation.The press conference is themed on the cultural tourism industry and held to promote the bailout and resumption of production of cultural and tourism enterprises in the context of the epidemic COVID-19.The selected material includes the opening remarks by two hosts,speeches by two main leaders and two financial experts.The selected audio lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes,and the whole simulated consecutive interpretation lasts 2 and a half hours.After the simulated practice,the author transcribes the recordings,and the original material is transformed into more than 12,300 characters.Firstly,the background,content,and value significance of material selection are introduced.Then the theoretical perspective of this report “Gile’s Effort Model” is briefly described.Secondly,the author explains the processes of pre-interpreting,while-interpreting,and post-task.Next,under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model,according to the uneven distribution of energy in listening comprehension,memory,note-taking,and production caused by high density of information,unfamiliar technical terms and expressions,as well as improper note-taking,the author analyzes these problems one by one and puts forward appropriate tactics to reduce the load of these problems on the author,such as omission,segmentation,reconstructing,explaining or paraphrasing,and symbols or abbreviations in notes,etc.The improvements of all aspects of ability can help the author achieve proper allocation of energy.Finally,the author reflects herself by describing new gains and putting forward the work direction and task in the future.In conclusion,this practice activity aims to summarize the experience and lessons,as well as guide the author’s further learning on interpreting.At the same time,it provides a case study for other consecutive interpretations based on culture and tourism,and provides some references or help for other interpreting learners.
