A Consecutive Interpreting Report On The Symposium On The Thailand Tourism Authority's Investigation To Ordos (2016)

This interpretation practice report,as a report on Chinese-English consecutive interpreting(C-E CI)with the original interpretation text,describes a CI task conducted by the author of this report,who is also an interpreter for the Symposium on the Thailand Tourism Authority's Investigation to Ordos(2016).The report analyzes the interpretation of the speech delivered by the speakers of Ordos Tourism Administration and discusses common difficulties of C-E CI with the original interpretation text as well as possible coping strategies and solutions.The interpretation process of this interpretation task consists of the pre-preparation for interpretation,the interpreting contingency plan,and implementation.The interpretation's pre-preparations are divided into short-term preparation and on-site preparation,each with different focuses and functions.In the case analysis,the interpreter presents the transcript of both the original speech and the interpreter's interpretation,from which typical examples are selected for further analysis from interpreting long sentences,culture-loaded words,colloquial speech,and place names and cultural activity names,the recognition of regional accents,and the on-site notes.Through the task description and analysis,it can be concluded that the pre-preparation of interpretation plays an important role in a successful interpreting.And some interpreting methods and strategies in consecutive interpreting are summarized in this report.What is more,in consecutive interpreting,the recognition of regional accents and note-taking should base on meaning groups instead of word for word records.The interpreter hopes this report could provide lessons for the consecutive interpreting on tourism and the publicity of Inner Mongolia tourism and culture.
