A Report On E-C Translation Of COVID-19 Thematic News From The Economist

In 2020,covid-19 began to spread fast across the world.Chinese people are very concerned about the pandemic in other countries,so the demand for translation of the covid-19 thematic news from foreign magazines has surged.This report is based on 10 covid-19 thematic news from The Economist.The main content of chosen news shows the negative impact of the covid-19 on many countries and their effectiveness of countermeasures.An analysis of this report is based on “comprehension,expression,and adaptation” framework put forward by Li Changshuan.The research methods are text analysis and case analysis.The goal is,combined with translation examples,to analyze and summarize the difficulties encountered in translation,and propose solutions.Through translation practice,the following conclusions are drawn: Firstly,when translating current affairs news text,the translator,at the comprehension level,must correctly understand the meaning of words,clarify the structure of sentences,and have enough knowledge of the background.At the expression level,the translator must flexibly use the conversion strategy,pay attention to information flows,and reasonably express important sentence patterns such as some passive sentences,and long difficult sentences.At the adaptation level,the translator must flexibly add,delete or modify the information of original text to conform to the expression habits of the target language.Secondly,the translator must take a rigorous and responsible attitude towards both original text and translated text.The meaning of the original text cannot be speculated about at will,and the corresponding expression of the translated text needs to be appropriate.The translator must establish a correct ideological view and treat both original text and translated text with critical thinking.It is hoped that this report provides some reference for the translation of current affairs news text and future researches on news translation.
