With the aggravation of climate change in recent years,more and more attention has been paid to climate problems all over the world.As a bridge of communication between countries,news is an important channel for countries to know other countries around the world.The source language news of this translation report is selected from a series of reports on climate issues in The Economist,which has the common characteristics of objectivity and truthfulness.The type of translation is from English to Chinese.This thesis discusses the problems encountered in the translation of headlines,vocabulary,sentences and discourse.Through the translation practice,the author finds that this series of news climate reports has the general characteristics of news English translation,but also has its own characteristics.The author analyzes the difficulties encountered in the translation process and discusses some typical examples.We adhere to Newmark’s communicative translation theory,using literal and free translation in the translation of headlines,choosing words of appropriate word classes in Chinese,and selecting word meanings according to the context.Besides,we make use of four-word idioms popular in Chinese,and analyze passive sentences,short sentences and long and difficult sentences,striving to make the translation accurate and vivid.Through this process,the author has learned that in order to do news translation well,translators must have a certain degree of sensitivity,as well as conducting a lot of translation practice.Only then can one really do news translation well.
