| The English website of universities and colleges serves as a crucial platform for communication and publicity,so its translation quality is essential for displaying their image.In order to build a better English website,the Publicity Department of Huazhong Agricultural University and the MTI team of the College of Foreign Languages established Agricultural News Translation Workshop.The translator undertook the translation task as a member of the workshop.The report is based on this translation practice,which covers Huazhong Agricultural University’s great achievements,academic exchanges,etc.The news of Huazhong Agricultural University is mostly related to agriculture.Beside the characters of objectivity and conciseness,agricultural news is scientificity because it involves a large amount of scientific knowledge.Considering the features of its language and functions,the translator mainly chooses Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory as a main guiding principle during translation process.The translator pursues that the same effect of translated news as the original news in spreading information and communicating,and hopes that the target readers can get information and know more about Huazhong Agricultural University when browsing websites.Based on the communicative translation theory,the report will analyze the agricultural news from lexical,syntactical,and discourse level respectively,and discuss its translation strategies,which is helpful for the campus news translation in future.At the lexical level,accuracy and standardization should be observed,and the translation should convey the cultural connotation of cultural words.At the syntactic level,the sentence structure should be clear and the sentence focus should be obvious.At the discourse level,reorganization is mainly adopted,and the cohesion between texts is emphasized.It is expected that the translation strategies and methods concluded in this report can serve as references for future related translation. |
