| The Economist,a magazine published by The Economist Group, has been dedicated to providing readers with a global perspective and is consistently ranked as the world’s most trusted source of news. The business news of the magazine is unique, going beyond merely reporting recent commercial events to analyze their impact on economics, business, and finance fields. It places greater emphasis on in-depth analysis and interpretation of events and provide readers with a global perspective.Guided by Chesterman’s translation strategy memes,22 in-depth business news reports from June to December 2020 of The Economist are selected as the object of study, and a study on the Chinese translation of business news under the influence of COVID-19 is conducted.Furthermore, three levels of syntax, semantics, and pragmatics are discussed, and 5-6 translation strategy memes are selected for each level to guide the practice.By analyzing representative translation examples in practice, applicable translation strategies for business news are summarized. At the syntactic level, strategies such as transposition, unit shift, and sentence structure change are adopted to clarify the relationships between sentences and simplify the translation, thus enhancing its readability. At the semantic level, strategies such as converse, abstraction change, and emphasis are used to accurately convey the meaning of the source text and make the target text more in line with Chinese collocation habits. At the pragmatic level, strategies such as cultural filtering, explicitness change, and information change are employed to address comprehension issues caused by cultural differences, convey information as completely as possible, and ensure coherence and cohesion in discourse.By selecting appropriate translation strategies to guide specific translation cases, the important guiding role is demonstrated. |
