| For the sake of enabling Chinese readers to understand the international economic situation and obtain more relevant knowledge,the author combined Newmark communicative translation to translate eighteen articles in the Finance &Economics sector of The Economist in May 2021.The reason for choosing economic news is that it has certain research value,such as the text characteristics of strong knowledge specialty,complex sentence structure and close logical structure.Except that,communicative translation can ensure the transmission of information and guide the author to use neatly translation methods to make the translation more suitable for the target readers’ thoughts and expression.To sum up,this practice report mainly discussed the translation of terms and culture-loaded words at the lexical level,passive sentences,clauses,long and rhetorical sentences at the syntactic level and makes a brief analysis of cohesion and coherence at the textual level,all of which were under the guidance of Newmark communicative translation.At the lexical level,the author mainly gave a simple explanation of terms and applied the technique of annotation to attach them to the translated text,so as to facilitate readers’ reading and understanding.As for culture-loaded words,the author found that it would be difficult for readers to understand them if their surface meanings were brought into the text.Therefore,representative examples of such words were selected for analysis.After introducing their sources,the words were explained,brought into the context,and translated according to communicative translation theory.At the syntactic level,there are many passive sentences,long sentences,clauses and rhetorical sentences.The author selected representative sentences to study.For the passive sentence,the author adopted the method of changing the subject and substituting.For long and complex sentences,in order to make readers better learn the translation of such sentences,the author pointed out the trunk and then separated and reorganized the sentence.For metaphor sentences,the author found the noumenon and the metaphor to make detailed analysis and introduction for readers.At the textual level,the author analyzed the context and tried to show the inner logic clearly to the readers.The last part of the practice report reflected and summarized from the above four aspects combining Newmark’s communicative translation and financial and economic news,vocabulary,syntax and text,and reviewed the shortcomings and innovations in the whole translation process. |
