In recent years,China’s international influence is increasingly strong,and Sino-foreign trade exchanges have also increased.More and more Chinese learners emphasis on the practicality of Chinese,hoping to communicate in Chinese proficiently.In order to satisfy the needs of Chinese learners,it is very important to choose appropriate teaching methods.There are many different second language teaching methods,including Grammar-Translation Method,Audiolingual Method,Direct Method,Functional Approach,Communicative Approach and so on.However,the development of language teaching at this stage pays more attention to the learner’s experience.It has gradually transformed into a learner-centered teaching model,focusing on cultivating learners’ verbal comprehension,expression ability and communicative ability.Thematic instruction is a teaching method with a series of teaching activities around the theme.Learners are the centre of the class and it promotes the learners’ language ability through teaching activities and practice.Compared with traditional teaching methods,thematic instruction can achieve the goal of improving learners’ communicative competence,so that they can apply what they have learned.Therefore,this article applies the thematic instruction into the intermediate Chinese comprehensive course in order to make learners to learn while practicing.According to the results,thematic instruction can achieve the teaching objectives and improve learners’ communicative competence.It is an effective teaching method.This article consists of seven parts.The introduction part explains the research background,research significance and relevant researches of thematic instruction.Chapter one is an overview of thematic instruction,it expounds the theoretical basis,definition,characteristics and specific links of thematic instruction.Chapter two introduces the nature of the intermediate Chinese comprehensive course,and analyzes the applicability of applying thematic instruction to the intermediate Chinese comprehensive course.Chapter three proposes corresponding teaching strategies for the intermediate Chinese comprehensive course under the guidance of thematic instruction.Chapter four is the specific teaching design for intermediate Chinese comprehensive course based on thematic instruction,including theme selection,preparation before class,implementation of teaching and after-class feedback.Chapter five is the reflection on the teaching process and the application of thematic instruction to the intermediate Chinese comprehensive course.The last part is the conclusion,summarizing the whole teaching design and putting forward prospects.
