With the sustainable social development,the material and spiritual living standards have constantly improved.People pay much more attention to education.They’ve been aware of the importance of family education and its irreplaceable role in the process of children’s growth.Children can and should be joyful.Therefore,it can not only promote the health development of children physically,but also the harmonious development of families.With the development of psychology and pedagogy,the translation of texts about family education is increasing quickly.However,the quality of the translations is uneven,which has caused great limitations to the improvement of this area.Under the guidance of Eugene A Nida’s functional equivalence,the report,which contains the translation of the first two chapters of The Joyful Child:a Sourcebook of Activities and Ideas for Releasing Children’s Natural Joy by Peggy Davison Jenkins,discusses the translation methods and strategies for informative texts.After analyzing the types and characteristics of the source text,the author solves some problems at lexical,syntactic and discourse level using some strategies based on the three principles of the theory.Also,the author summarizes the corresponding strategies and combines case analysis with functional equivalence,thus deepening the understanding of functional equivalence theory and improving the level and quality of the translation.In the process of translation and case analysis,the author realizes that appropriate strategies and methods should be adopted according to the features of the source text in order to achieve functional equivalence.Furthermore,the author summarizes some experiences and points out problems yet to be solved,hoping to provide some references for the translation of informative texts in the future.
