| The Self-Driven Child is the new book by William Stixrud,PhD and Ned Johnson together about the psychology of family education.This book mainly focuses on the researches of the neuroscience and psychology of child development,and uses various of clinical cases to show what parents should do to model and develop the self-control of their kids and produce the true person who owns the sound personality.The translator has chosen the third chapter from this book to translate and written the translation report accordingly.This chapter unfolds focusing on the topic of “Kids as Decision Makers”,detailing the reasons for doing so,giving the examples of correct and false behavior and stating the toughest point to explain why it is hard for parents to do so.At the end of the chapter,the author has attached several supportive suggestions.Proposed by Eugene A.Nida,Functional Equivalence emphasizes that the version of translating is the closest natural equivalent to the source-language information.A functionalequivalence translation is mainly connected with the equivalence of receptors’ response rather than the equivalence of language forms.And this theory also implies the target language readers should have the same response as the source language readers do.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence,the translator chooses different translation methods such as division,conversion,and amplification to convey and represent the original content correctly.This thesis consists of four chapters.The first part is about the description of this translation task,which mainly introduces the source of the task,the brief introduction of the text and the meaning of the translation.The second chapter describes the translation process,including the preparations before the translating,the modified Chinese versions,and the final version.Chapter three is the main part,which selected typical cases to analyze.Under the direction of Functional Equivalence,the translator has elaborated on the specific translation methods adopted during the translation process from the three levels of vocabulary,syntax and text.The last chapter has summarized the experience and ideas of this translation practice.The translator reviews the unresolved issues and related thinking in the translating practice,with a hope to provide reference for other translators.The translator also hopes that through this translation,the parents and relevant guardians can think about how to cultivate a self-driven child.And they can be aware of the disastrous consequences of the lack of child psychology and family education,avoiding the similar mistakes.Meanwhile,the translator expect that this report will provide useful reference for other translators. |
