The materials selected for this translation practice report are the thirteenth and fourteenth chapters of The Self-Driven Child,a book on child control awareness and science co-written by William Stixrud and Ned Johnson. The Self-Driven Child is a book about children’s education, mainly talks about the children’s self-control ability. The translator found in the cnki that types of childen’s books are quite single. Some of the domestic research starts from the child’s self-control and interpersonal communication, and another studied of the danger of the out of control as well as the relationship between self-control and juvenile crime abroad. There are also explanations about the relationship between self-control and ethical behavior;but all of the above are research-based,mainly points out the importance of child’s self-control ability through a certain phenomenon, but from the perspective of parents, suggestions for cultivating children’s self-control ability are extremely lacking,as the urgency of children’s education becomes more prominent, the importance of such books is self-evident.In response to this situation, the translation materials are selected by the translator and classmates who are translators of another chapters of this book, and completed with the consent and guidance of the instructor. This translation practice report can be divided into five parts: translation task introduction, translation process introduction, translation theory foundation, typical translation practice case analysis and final summary.According to Reiss’ s text-based translation theory, the text is divided into informative type, expressive type and operative type. The information type text is designed to convey the facts of information, knowledge, opinions, news(news),opinions, feelings, etc.Because The Self-Driven Child is aimed to convey facts such as information, knowledge, opinions, etc.,and therefore The Self-Driven Child belongs to the informative function text.Nida’s functional equivalence theory states that “translation is the reproduction of the source language from semantics to stylistics in the most appropriate, natural and equivalent language”(Nida,1964),so the theory can effectively guide the translation of this book.In the translation practice of The Self-Driven Child, the translator mainly analyzes the problems and obstacles encountered in the process of translation from three aspects, such as the translation of proper nouns and terms, the translation of long difficult sentences and the translation of texts,as well as the translation methods used in the process of translating under the guidance of the theory of functional equivalence. In the process of translation, errors and misunderstandings caused by knowledge blind, difficulties and errors in the understanding of the source language are main difficulties and obstacles, and the main translation methods are the methods include amplification, omission, combined translation and sub-interpretation as well as another methods.
