The lecture Trade Conflicts and China’s Role in the International Financial System was given by John Lipsky in the School of Advanced International Studies,Johns Hopkins University(SAIS)which includes analysis of China’s current financial market in terms of savings and credits,and of China’s role in international financial market from the aspect of foreign direct investment.The report aims to make more people pay attention to such kind of issue or learn about how the foreign scholars think of the development of China.Most importantly,the interpreter wants to improve her interpreting skills through this task.The interpreter divided the problems met during the process into two categories in accordance with Gile’s Effort Model--problems in listening and analysis phase and problems in production phase.Problems in listening and analysis phase include accent and sentences with high-density information;problems in production phase refers to terminology,sentences with high-density information and note-taking.Strategies have been used to tackle problems met in listening and analysis phase like symbols and abbreviations in note-taking,fuzzy interpreting,omission,parallel reformulation,and strategies has been used to tackle problems met in production phase like generalization,parrot repetition,segmentation and reconstructing,etc.The interpreter hopes that this report can help other fellow interpreters become aware of problems which frequently occurred in consecutive interpreting and the significance of coordination of efforts to achieve excellent performance in future tasks.
