This report is founded on a simulated English-Chinese consecutive interpreting of a lecture titled China and the Global Economy: Financial and Economic Instability and How to Avoid It.The lecture was given by Oxford researcher Andrew Farlow on the 2005-2007 financial crisis, including its root causes and effects.Based on Gile’s Effort Model theory for Consecutive Interpreting, the report mainly discusses about the challenges and difficulties which the author struggled with in the two phases of consecutive interpreting respectively, namely, the listening + short-term memory + note-taking + analysis phase and note-reading + memory + production phase. And the author provides a chain of coping tactics such as reasoning, omission, stalling, correction, etc.to address these challenges.Furthermore, the author evaluates her work according to professor Cai Xiaohong’s criteria on conference interpreting and sums up some bright spots and problems. In a word, this practice report aims to offer other student interpreters useful coping tactics to deal with similar problems encountered in consecutive interpreting that help improve their quality of delivery and accuracy of message to some extent during future tasks.
