E-C Simultaneous Interpretation Practice

In the middle of 2019,the author got the recordings of a conference from the RDCY Series-"Sino-US Relations and Trade Negotiations – from American Business’ perspectives" meeting.It is considered to be very valuable,also could be used as relevant analysis and learning materials to conduct relevant studies.Therefore,in this paper,the author choose it to have a simulation practice of simultaeous interpretation above the recordings,so the report is made to draw the strengths and weaknesses of the author’s capabilities in daily studying life and hopes that this report will be an anchor in guiding the future of one’s career direction,personally.Apart from that,the shortcomings and wrongdoings in the context may easily be ignored by new interpreters who just take steps into this area,naturally,the experience could be borrowed in those new interpreters’ practice to avoid the same dilemma in different tasks.The first chapter of this report describes the interpretation tasks,introduces the background of the interpreting activities and project service objects as well as the purpose of this simulation practice.In the second chapter,the author demonstrates the pre-interpretation preparation,makes the glossaries,arranges the background material,and analyses the spokesperson’s speaking style.Apart from that,one important job is about the arrangement of the simulated venue,and receiving interpretation quality assessment form after the task for the sake of analysis on Related data statistics.In the third chapter,the cognitive load theory used in simultaneous interpretation is introduced.In the fourth chapter,the author applies the theory of short-term memory and syntactic linearity to attempt to analyze the problems encountered in the interpretation process and put forward concrete and feasible countermeasures.After the case analysis,some of the problems that the author has during the process shows up,such as lack of background information,mistakes in figures interpretation,misunderstandings about the content and poor expression either,etc.However,the author also grasps the related translation strategies well in amplification and discourse transfer etc.The fifth chapter is mainly about the post-interpretation reflections and summary about the practice.The author obtained much experience in this task,also found out the weakness in interpretation studies,thus a feasible training method is accessible.The author is sure to improve one’s capabilities in this occupation after years of practicing.
