| This paper studies segmentation and cohesion skills in simultaneousinterpretation, based on the Effort Model by Professor Denial·Gile from France. Longand complex sentences are inevitable in the process of simultaneous interpretation.Segmentation and cohesion are particularly important in interpreting long sentences. The most commonly used method of segmentation includes segmentations at therelative words, segmentations at the conjunctions of run-on clauses and segmentationsat prepositional phrases of phrase structure. Meanwhile, techniques of cohesionsmainly include cohesion based on semantic logic, the repetition of certain words ormeanings, or the transformations of parts of speech. This paper explores and analyzesthe use of the segmentation and cohesion techniques in the1stAcademic Conferenceof Tort Law Society. It can be concluded that segmentation and cohesion play animportant role in simultaneous interpretation, and it can help interpreters finish theirwork smoothly. |
