| English and Chinese belong to the Indo-European and Sino-Tibetan languages respectively,and there are great differences in the way of thinking,the scope of use and the origin of culture between the two languages.Negative expressions are also different.These differences increase the difficulty of learning and translating negative sentences.As an important applied text,EST has always been the focus of many translation and research workers because of its rigorous,meticulous and practical characteristics.Therefore,the correct understanding and translation of negative sentences can be said to be very necessary.Taking the negative sentences in translation materials as the main research object,this paper discusses the application of negative sentences in scientific and technological texts and its methods in Chinese translation.The author first introduces the research results of negative sentences and the recognized classification methods of former scholars,and then introduces the classification and present research situation of negative sentences based on Huang Yanglou’s classification standard.According to the three types of negative sentences that are commonly used in the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual:meaning negation,double negation and negative sentences with comparative degree,the author summarizes the methods that can be adopted in translating different types of negative sentences given the difficulties encountered in learning and translation practice ae well as the research results of others and the author’s own translation experience.This paper provides a new way of thinking for the Chinese translation methods of negative sentences as well as a reference for solving the difficulties of translation of negative sentences. |
