A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of The Peat Health Engineering(Excerpt)

At present,with the deepening of economic globalization,China,like other countries,is constantly focusing on strengthening exchanges and cooperation between countries.China’s peat industry seizes all opportunities to grow and expand itself,not only opening up the Chinese market,but also occupying a place in the international market.This translation material is excerpted from Peat Health Engineering by Meng Xianmin,professor of Peat Research Institute of Northeast Normal University and academician Liu Xingtu of Chinese Academy of Sciences.Although the development trend of peat industry in China is good,the knowledge of peat health engineering is not well known by the general public abroad.Therefore,this English translation study is conducive to the spread and popularization of peat health knowledge in the world,and it will have a certain practical value for the development of the international market of peat health industry in China,and it is of great significance to spread peat knowledge in China.Guided by Newmark’s Text Typology Theory,this translation practice report focuses on the English translation strategies of peat health engineering.This paper consists of four chapters.Chapter one describes the translation task,and it introduces the source of the text,the characteristics of it and the corresponding research significance.Chapter two describes the task process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and quality control.Chapter three,the core part of the translation practice report,is the case analysis,and it mainly discusses the lexical,syntactic and discourse aspects under the guidance of the Text Typology Theory.Chapter four is the feedback and summary of the translation practice report.Through the translation report,the translator sums up the following conclusions in translation process:firstly,the translator should choose appropriate translation methods according to the style and language features of source text such as linear translation,zero translation,conversion,restructuring and cohesion.Secondly,translator should seek suitable translation theories for different texts as translation guidance,for example,in this report,Text Typology Theory is selected for translation practice according to the theory’s informative feature.
