A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of National Health Security Strategy 2019-2022

Public health concerns the health of people and national security,and has always been the focus of government works in all countries.The deepening of economic globalization has increased the frequency of public health events greatly.China’s public health work has made great progress since the country has adopted the reform and opening up policy.We should highly appreciate this,but we also see that China’s health undertakings still have obvious shortcomings.Therefore,we should learn advanced experience from abroad.The author of this practice report selected the U.S.National Health Security Strategy as the target of translation from the official website of the U.S.Department of Health&Human Services and translated it into Chinese.Based on this,the translator has summarized in this report the problems found during the translation process and the solutions to further improve the translation abilityThis report has five chapters:introduction,translation process,source text analysis,case analysis and conclusion.The Introduction gives a general description of the translation task,including task background and a source text analysis.The translation process includes pre-translation preparation,translation,and post-translation work.The source text analysis part firstly analyzes the text type of the source text and then introduces Newmark’s communicative translation and semantic translation theory.The case analysis part clarifies the main problems encountered in translation practice,explaining them from the lexical and the syntactic level as well as the discourse level,the translator adopted semantic translation to solve the problems at the lexical level including the translation of acronyms,the translation of names of places and the translation of Internet terminologies;at the syntactical level,the translator adopted the amplification,omission,conversion and inversion to solve various problems under the guidance of communicative translation;at the discourse level,the translator adopted communicative translation to render the discourses.The conclusion summarizes the report and comes up with some suggestions for future work and study.
