This report is based on translating England and the Hundred Years’ War,a historical book written by the military historian Charles Oman.The book belongs to historical texts,sets in the hundred years’ war between England and France,and describes in rigorous and vivid style about the slaughter games that occurred during those years.The significant differences between historical text and other text types are linguistic features.Meanwhile,linguistic features play a crucial role in the transmission of historical information,and determine the scientific and historical characteristics of the text.Therefore,the process of translating the historical literature,translators should accurately set the type of target text,so as to transmit specific information conveyed by the source text to the target readers and represent the history accurately and fluently to them.Based on the translation practice,this paper uses the text typology theory to analyze historical documents from three aspects of linguistic characteristics,vocabularies and sentence patterns,so as to accurately convey the information in historical texts and improve the translation quality.In order to show historical,scientific and objective characteristics of historical texts and help readers get correct historical information easily,the author employs several strategies in her process of translating,and these strategies are listed to offer some help to other translators who may encounter the same text type in their future workThe report is divided into five parts.The first part is the background,significance and specific requirement of the translation task.The second part is the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation correction.The third part is the specific problems and the analysis of their causes.The fourth part is the strategy used to deal with the problems,by which the author can ensure the accuracy,fluency and logicality of historical information in the target text The fifth chapter is the conclusion,summarizing the author’s experience and reflection in completing the translation task.
