OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the status of family functioning of stroke patients and analyzed which factors affecting family functioning of these patients. To provide a reference for the intervention work to improve the family functioning of stroke patients. Methods: The convenience sampling method was adopted.One-on-one interviews were conducted among stroke patients and their families in the Department of Neurology of a Grade III,Grade A hospital in Shenyang by uniformly trained investigators.Self-made demographic data, disease related data questionnaire,Family Assessment Device(FAD),Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS)and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)were used as research tools.Epi Data 3.5 was used to enter the data.SPSS 22.0 was used for independent sample t-test,analysis of variance and multiple linear regression analysis, and P<0.05 indicated statistically significant differences RESULTS: In this study,a total of 210 questionnaires were sent out and all collected with a recovery rate of 100%,including 205 valid questionnaires with an effective response rate of 97.6%.There are 123 males, accounting for 60%,82 females, accounting for 40%,35 people aged 18 to 45 account for 17.1%,and 81 people aged 46 to 60 account for39.5%;89 people over 60 years old accounted for about 43.4%.The family role is the main labor force with 64 people accounting for 31.2%,and the non-main labor force population has 142,accounting for 68.8%.The total FAD score of stroke patients is(131.16±15.02),indicating that the family function of stroke patients is average. The mean of each dimension shows that the communication dimension has the highest score (20.6±3.4),followed by the role function(20.26±2.88).The total function(18.79±2.56)points,emotional intervention(18.72±2.88)points,behavior control(18.17±2.37)points,emotional response(18.10± 2.48)points,and finally the problem-solving dimension score(16.47±2.31)points.The factors that finally enter the regression analysis include marital status,Stroke frequency, depression, social support, activities of daily living, spouse’s health status and whether they are the main labor force in the family are the main influencing factors of family function in stroke patients. Conclusion: The family function of stroke patients was at the general condition, among the seven dimensions, family communication and role acting were the worst. The family function of stroke patients is affected by their marital status(widowed),family role, activities of daily living, relapse, depression, and level of social support. Therefore, nurses can focus on patients with widowed spouse, the main family labor force, poor activities of daily living, relapse, depression, and low level of social support, and sufficiemt support and help should be given to such patients and their families.Future intervention studies on family function of stroke patients can draw on the results of this study to form targeted intervention programs.
