Objective By observing to what extent Sang-Ju-Yin(Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction)can alleviate the clinical symptoms of children with upper airway cough syndrome(or… in TCM),and objectively evaluating the clinical efficacy for the treatment of children with upper airway cough syndrome,we provide a new way with integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine for the diagnosis and treatment for children with upper airway cough syndrome.MethodsWe selected as our study cases 80 children from pediatric outpatient during the period from January 2020 to January 2021 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, among whom 80 children were diagnosed with the airway cough syndrome(or … in TCM)and underlying diseases associated with allergic rhinitis symptoms. The patients were evenly divided into two groups: the treatment group and the control group. The control group was treated with Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray combined with Desloratadine Syrup orally, meanwhile,on the basis of the control group, the treatment group was given oral San-Ju-Ying.Two weeks were taken as a course for both control and treatment groups. Two courses were observed. The clinical symptoms and signs of the two groups before and after treatment were quantified and analyzed statistically. The difference of curative effect between the two groups was evaluated according to the statistical results. After treatment, the patients were followed up for 2 months to compare the recurrence rate of the two groups and analyze the long-term efficacy of the treatment prescription in the two groups.ResultsClinical research results show that Sang-Ju-Yin(Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction)has a significant effect on children with upper airway cough syndrome. The details are as follows:(1)Overall efficacy: the total effective rate of the treatment group was 94.7%,and that of the control group was 89.8%.The difference has statistically significant(P < 0.05),indicating that the clinical efficacy of the treatment group was better than that of the control group.(2)Symptom improvement: after treatment, the traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores of the two groups were decreased compared with those before treatment.Statistical analysis showed that the two groups were effective in improving traditional Chinese medicine symptoms(P < 0.05),and the treatment group was better than the control group in cough, expectoration, pharyngeal itching, postnasal flu, throat clearing and pharyngeal symptoms(P < 0.05).There was no significant difference in nasal congestion, itching, runny nose and sneezing between the two groups(P > 0.05);the curative effect of the treatment group after 4 weeks was better than that after 2 weeks(P< 0.05),and there was no significant difference between the control group after 4 weeks and 2 weeks(P > 0.05).(3)Follow-up situation: after 1 month and 2 months of treatment, the recurrence rate of the treatment group was lower than that of the control group(P < 0.05).(4)Sang-Ju-Yin(Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction)is effective in the treatment of children with upper airway cough syndrome, and there is no adverse reaction during the treatment.ConclusionSang-Ju-Yin(Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction)has definite efficacy in the treatment of children with upper airway cough syndrome. It can effectively control children’s cough and nasopharynx symptoms, shorten the course of disease, reduce the long-term recurrence rate, with no obvious adverse reaction in the process of medication. It is also highly secure and worthy of application and promotion in clinical practice.
