As China’s population rapidly ages,a series of policies have been introduced in recent years to improve the livable environment for the elderly.Old adults are the main users of landscape environment, which provides stable places and opportunities for the daily leisure activities of the elderly. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the elderly-oriented strategy of landscape space.Based on the long-term behavioral observation and questionnaire interview in Nanjing urban parks, this paper aims to explore the activity and behavior characteristics of the elderly in the park landscape environment and the elderly-oriented strategies based on behavioral data.Data were collected from ten parks to compose a total dataset nearly 2000 activity statistics and 370 valid questionnaires. The results show that the urban park and its space in the old city have become important places for old adults to carry out daily activities. After activities in the landscape environment, the health and well-being of old adults have been significantly improved, especially in the sense of social connection and reduction of loneliness compared with other age groups.Through correlation analysis and spatial accessibility analysis,it was found that the number of activities and the activity intensity of old adults was positively correlated with environmental characteristics. The green visibility, height difference change, sky visibility factor, underlying surface type, architectural space scale, lighting equipment, comprehensive surrounding environment, facilities, and spatial accessibility factor of activity places are all positively correlated with the activity attraction of the elderly.Based on the activity and place preferences of the elderly, combined with the physiological and psychological characteristics, and needs of older adults, this paper puts forward the optimization strategy of urban park space for old adults based on the overall pattern of spatial accessibility, road space and space of amenity buildings.Based on physical activity and the health of old adults, this paper puts forward an optimization model for Nanjing urban parks,so as to better build urban green space more suitable for the activities of old adults.
