Investigation On Outdoor Environment Design For Urban Elderly Care Institutions With The Considerations Of Elderly’s Multi-level Demands

With the rapid increase of the elderly population,the aging problem of population is becoming more and more serious.The traditional home-based care mode is constantly challenged due to the increasing demands and higher service quality of the elderly care,and more and more elderly choose the elderly care institutions.Compared with Europe,America,Japan and other developed countries,the investigation on the elderly care institution design in our country was relatively late,and relevant theoretical studies are insufficient,especially for the outdoor environment which directly influence the elderly’s physical and mental health status and life quality.To sum up,it is in urgent need to investigate the outdoor environment design for urban elderly care institutionsIn this paper,according to the relevant literature and information,the population aging status,elderly care mode,and elderly care institution calcification in our country have been briefly introduced,and the relevant concepts have been identified.The importance of the outdoor environment design of the elderly care institution has been emphasized by summarizing the relevant studies at home and abroad,firstly.Secondly,the elderly’s characteristics in physiology,psychology and acts have been discussed and the requirements on the outdoor environment design have been concluded based on the results of questionair.The general principles of the outdoor environment design including safety and accessibility,health and suitability,ease of identification,connection and integration,ecological sustainability and region cultural property have been introduced.In additions,the design points of main outdoor environment components such as road system,activity space,supporting facilities,guiding and lighting system,greening system and water system have been summarized.Finally,based on the theory mentioned above,the outdoor environment design of two elderly care institutions located in northern and southern China have been regard as the study of the theoretical and practical.
