The report to the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that the main social contradictions in China have been transformed into the contradiction between the growing needs of people’s better life and the unbalanced and inadequate development. From the perspective of residents’ needs, the attention to the quality of urban life has become a research hotspot. On the scale of district and county administrative divisions, the quality of life in some old urban areas is becoming more and more serious. How to accurately grasp the needs of urban residents and effectively improve the quality of urban life needs a lot of research. The literature found that more and more attention has been paid to the research of urban quality of life at home and abroad, and the demand-oriented research focusing on the relationship between the diversity and hierarchy of demand and urban quality of life has become a hot spot.Based on this, this study introduces the post materialism theory, and deeply analyzes the impact of the transformation of public values on the demand of urban residents’ quality of life.Taking Gusu District as the empirical research object, through the evaluation of the quality of urban life under the post materialism transformation, the contradiction between the residents’ needs and the quality of urban life is clarified, the demand of the post materialism transformation for the improvement of the quality of urban life in the future is predicted, and the corresponding planning strategies are put forward.Firstly, the impact of post materialism transformation on the quality of urban life is divided into five areas: economic development, landscape environment, social services, ecological civilization and cultural prosperity, and discusses the relationship between value transformation and the quality of urban life. Then, the paper analyzes the post materialism performance of population, economy, society, environment, ecology and culture around the research object of Gusu District, and analyzes the various field and multi-level needs of urban residents in Gusu district by building a demand dimension model. Then, according to the adaptability of quality supply to demand change under the post materialism transformation, two evaluation models of index evaluation and spatial evaluation are constructed to form complementary. The index selection starts from five areas in the quality of urban life, according to the four dimensions of safety, comfort, respect and self realization to further screen and construct the index evaluation model.Based on the results of the classification and screening of POI,the spatial evaluation model of resource space abundance and quality of life demand is constructed respectively, and the two are combined to evaluate the adaptability of space. The results of two sets of evaluation show that the quality of life in Gusu District is good as a whole, but there are short boards in five areas of supply to demand. Finally, according to the law of post materialism transformation, the paper forecasts the development trend to the improvement of quality of urban life in Gusu district, and puts forward the promotion strategies and planning suggestions from five perspectives: shaping the life quality in the era of modern service economy;focusing on the space optimization and style improvement of aesthetic;accurate supply facing differentiation demand;building a green ecological life model;Leading life with cultural integration in all fields. These studies are a useful supplement to the demandoriented research on the quality of urban life,so they have practical significance for urban planning to improve the quality of urban life.
