| The fast urbanization and marketization as well as the changes in people’s lifestyle and needs have driven more and more rural populations to migrate into the urban areas nowadays.This trend has resulted in a serious problem of hollow villages in our country.The nation has proposed a Rural Revitalization Strategy under the current context,and the characteristics-conservation village is one of the four village categories specified in the Strategy.This type of village embraces significant historical and cultural values as it inherits the special cultivation culture and acts as a critical spatial accommodation promoting rural revitalization in our country.Therefore,activating the characteristics-conservation village has important meanings as revitalizing and transforming the declined characteristics-conservation villages could address the hollowing-out issues and improve the quality of life of villagers.This paper takes Baishiyan Village,one of the characteristics-conservation villages,as a subject case for studying the activation of hollow villages;and has collected research materials through multiple ways including field research,interviews,and literature review.Learning from the experience and methods applied in the activation of characteristics-conservation villages in the Kunming region.The paper summarizes the differences and similarities among different activation modes and concludes the principles and strategies that may be suitable for activating the existing traditional villages that are facing challenges of hollowing-out.The study then applies these specific principles and strategies in the project of Baishiyan Village activation.The research has explored the fundamental causes of the hollow villages from multiple perspectives regarding the characters,the types,the formation reasons as well as the challenges that the characteristics-conservation villages are facing;and intends to find out the specific method to activate the entire village.The paper has studied village activation from four aspects,including space,industries,people,and the system.The spatial strategies focus on preserving the node space and activating the space for cultural inheritance.The industrial strategies explore and compare the advantaged resources of the village and suggest appropriate development mode.The people strategies call for respecting the wills of villagers and promote public participation.The system strategies recommend a selection and establishment of an administrative mechanism.The goal of this study is to establish village activation theories for guiding the practical work under the policy context of Rural Revitalization in our country.The purpose is to preserve the characteristics-conservation villages and makes them evolve into organic integrities aiming for sustainable development. |
