This article mainly studies the impact of highway infrastructure in the western region on manufacturing agglomeration.Due to a certain gap between the economic development and the construction of transportation infrastructure in the western region and the eastern and central regions, the state has issued a series of policies to accelerate the formation of the comprehensive transportation system in the western region and undertake industrial transfer since the development of the western region, which will improve the development of transportation infrastructure in the western region. The situation and promoting industrial agglomeration are the key to guide the economic development of the western region.Based on this background, starting with the definition of concepts and related theories,it is clear that the location theory, new economic geography, and industrial agglomeration theory are the basis for studying the relationship between the two.And draw on the research ideas and methods of related theories to further deepen the understanding of the relationship between the two.Secondly, through the description and analysis of the status quo,it is found that the road infrastructure construction in the western region generally shows an upward trend, and the road construction investment also maintains a relatively high growth level, but the development of roads of different technical levels is unbalanced. The road infrastructure construction is too dependent on national investment, and the financing capacity is relatively Weaker. In addition, the average degree of manufacturing agglomeration in the western region is low, manufacturing technology is relatively backward, and the agglomeration degree varies greatly among provinces.Thirdly, through the analysis of the mechanism of highway infrastructure to the agglomeration of manufacturing industry, rational selection of indicators, based on the reference to the traditional panel model, use the spatial measurement method. The economic factors are introduced into the distance weight matrix to calculate the economic geographic weight matrix, and the spatial Dubin model is used to study the impact of highway infrastructure in the western region on manufacturing agglomeration based on the test results. The study found that there is a spatial correlation between highway infrastructure and manufacturing agglomeration in the western region.Highway infrastructure has a significant role in promoting manufacturing agglomeration.Among them,second-level highways and highways have the greatest promoting effect on manufacturing agglomeration. And the effect of foreign roads on the agglomeration of manufacturing is not obvious. From the analysis of spatial spillover effect,it is found that the direct effect of highway infrastructure is positive, indicating that the western region’s highway infrastructure has an impact on the local manufacturing cluster. From the breakdown of technical grade highways,it is found that the direct spillover effects of high-speed and secondary highways have the largest contribution to manufacturing agglomeration, and primary highways have a greater impact on the manufacturing agglomeration of neighboring areas. Finally, according to the research conclusions, relevant policy recommendations are proposed from four aspects: planning road construction in various provinces, rationally optimizing graded roads, focusing on financing input and output, and effectively grasping policy preferences.
