Typology Research From Traditional Courtyard Housing To Old-type Lilong Housing In Tianjin

Dwelling house is the most basic part of the city.The study on evolution of dwelling house is of great significance to clarify the spatial development of urban space.Lilong housing is one of the most important residential types in modern China.Its prototype is Chinese traditional courtyard housing and western townhouse,but the relationship between them is not clear.Taking traditional courtyard housing and old-type Lilong housing as examples,this paper aims to clarify the evolution and inheritance between the two through morphological analysis.The study adopts the Italian typology,which integrates the traditional courtyard and the old-type Lilong housing into a continuous typological process,and interprets the evolution pattern and law through different levels.The study includes two parts of the progressive relationship.The third chapter focus on the form of traditional courtyard housing and the old-type Lilong housing.The fourth chapter further analyzes the evolution of the two types of housing.The third chapter divides the two types of houses into three levels,which including group level,layout level and building level,and classified according to three levels.The research finds:(1)The traditional courtyard housing and the old-type housing all show clear diversity under different levels.(2)There are differences between two types on the classification and morphological characteristics at different levels.(3)The morphological characteristics of housing is the reflection of living pattern.The fourth chapter analyzes the evolution process between the two from the perspectives of passive change and active change.It is found through three levels of comparison:(1)The most clear difference between the old-type Lilong houing and traditional courtyard housing is the unit repetition at all levels.(2)The evolution between the two types is not single,but including the evolution between same type and different types.(3)The evolution process includes both passive and active changes,both of which tend to the intensive inhabitation.The application of the Italian typology method in this study is a supplement of the Italian urban morphology in Asian cities,revealing the development process of traditional from residential to modern phase in Tianjin.
