The Evolution Of Lilong Housing In Modern Tianjin, China: Morphological And Typological Perspectives

The thesis aims at the questions of the Lilong housing in modern Tianjin.Base on the fact of lacking Lilong housing's research in Tianjin compared with Shanghai and Wuhan,and lacking intensive interpretion of the evolution of Lilong housing in modern Tianjin in morphorlogical and typological perspectives,the thesis tries to reveal the Tianjin Lilong housing's evolution process and characteristics by the morphology method,and provides a new perspective for understanding and evaluating its value.First,the thesis summaries the conception and characteristics of ‘Lilong housing',and classify the Tianjin Lilong housing in terms of housing plane type on the basis of existing research on Lilong housing types.The thesis focuses on the relationship developing between the Lilong housing and the city,and carries out research on not only the relationship evolution between the inner lanes and outside streets but also the relationship evolution between the inside and outside space of the housing.Based on this,the thesis summarizes the characteristics of morphological evolution of the architectural group layout by analyzing various spatial privacy level and spatial topological relationship between building units and external streets of Lilong housing,and indicates that interior lane is becoming more private against the outer street Further,based on morphological evolution of three spatial element—i.e.,courtyard,living room and door,this thesis summarizes the characteristics of space evolution of the plane structure of the building unit,and points out that the lane space of Lilong housing were getting more open towards the outer lanes.Finally,combining the synthesis of the above two levels,the characteristics of the modern residential structure evolution in Tianjin are summarized.It is found that the process of the evolution of modern Lilong housing attributes to the collision of traditional culture and western colonial culture,which reflects the mixed nature of hybridity,translation and compatibility of modern Chinese cultural structure.Nowadays,a large number of historical blocks are facing demolition in the large scale of city development.I hope the result of the thesis can provide a new cognitive perspective to makea supplementary in the study of Lilong housing development,and to provide guidance and supplyment in the framework of residential protection in modern Tianjin.
