Glory And Restraint: The History Of A Grassroots Environmental Organization

After the reformation and opening up,with the overflow of government functions and the awakening of autonomous consciousness in the social field,social organizations in China have grown rapidly.In the context of the transformation of the national governance structure and the strengthening of social construction,the development of social organizations has become the focus of discussion in academia.A large number of studies have discussed the nature of social organizations under a given governance structure from a structural perspective,using theories such as "civil society" and "corporatism" to explore the power position of social organizations relative to the state.However,the single-dimensional research perspective reveals the problem of insufficient explanatory power when analyzing complex empirical phenomena.Therefore,in recent years,studies have gradually refined the image of "states" to reveal the multi-level governance mechanisms and their differences within the country,but most of them have neglected the description of the internal ecology of society.Based on the above problems,relevant studies have started from a dynamic perspective,using social organizations as the main subject to examine the living environment of social organizations in China.They reveal the unique survival wisdom and action strategies of social organizations in today’s Chinese social context.The active perspective describes the behavior logic of social organizations.But it must also be noted that most of the relevant researches stay at the level of static analysis for social organization.Based on this,this article attempts to describe the specific evolution process and influencing factors of grassroots organizations through an in-depth description of the development process of a grassroots environmental organization.The specific questions are as follows:(1)Observed from the perspective of organizational sociology,what kind of evolution has grassroots organizations experienced in their growth?(2)How is the evolution of the organization related to the internal and external environment? Through the case,we can find that the evolution of grassroots organizations is mainly reflected in the three dimensions of resource mobilization ability,project content transformation and relationship with the local government.In addition,the founder’s personal emotion is a powerful driving force for the establishment of the organization,and the value demands and development direction of the grassroots organization show a distinct personal color.The evolution of grassroots organizations is entangled in the huge tension between internal ecological traction and external environmental constraints.Among them,the social and institutional environment in which grassroots organizations are located has a profound impact on the development of the organization.
