Due to the New Normal of China's economy, urbanization has developed into an era of stock and urban renewal activities are in full swing.Nowadays there are still a large number of old industrial buildings, and as one of the most important objects of urban renewal, the quality of their green renovation is crucial to the sustainable development of urban area.As one of the four major industrial areas in China, the Pearl River Delta(PRD)is one of the areas with the strongest demand for urban renewal, but the hot-humid climate has brought severe challenges to the green renovation of local old industrial buildings. With the development of green building concept, the importance of spatial design in climate responsive design has been emphasized. However, the climate responsive space have not been paid enough attention in the research of old industrial buildings in the PRD,although spatial design is an important way to renew the function and form of old industrial buildings. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to explore the design method of climate responsive spaces suitable for the renovation of old industrial buildings in the PRD.First, the basic climate responsive requirements of the buildings in the PRD with hot-humid climate are discussed.Based on literature research and data support, the characteristics of the space and mainstream renovation mode about the old industrial buildings of light industry in the PRD are summarized, and the contradiction between them and the hot-humid climate is analyzed.Furthermore, this paper presents the idea that under the goal of climate response, the renovation design of the old industrial buildings in the PRD should not only meet the basic needs of climate response, but also pay attention to the practical needs of "Spatial Scale Imbalance","Weak Peripheral Protection Structure" and "Strong Economic Benefit".Then, the basic characteristics about the climate responsive spaces of buildings in the PRD are analyzed, and the cases of their application in the green renovation of old industrial buildings and its response to the renovation requirements are discussed, which proves the value of climate responsive spaces for the climate responsive renovation of old industrial buildings in the PRD.Then, thirteen non-green renovation projects in the PRD are investigated focusing on their climate responsive characteristics.By comparing them with the green renovation projects,it is found that the ideas of climate responsive design are also used in these non-green renovation projects. However, the green renovation projects demonstrate the importance of optimizing the performance of climate responsive space, based on which the characteristics of climate responsive spaces in the renovating practice are summarized. Finally, four kinds of climate responsive spaces for the old industrial buildings in the PRD are proposed, which are "Open Space","All-Weather Walking Space","Boundary Buffer space" and "Ventilation Adjustment Space".Base on case study and induction, fifteen design strategies for four kinds of climate adaptive space are summarized.By using sc STREAM simulation software and literature survey, the spatial performance optimization method for design strategy was discussed, and the design method set of "shaping climate adaptation space-optimizing climate adaptation performance" was formed initially, which aims to provide reference for renovation design of similar situation of climate or space characteristics.
