In this thesis, the herbaceous plants in the vegetation of Ulatte area were studied. The community types were determined by consulting the literature, field investigation, plant specimen collection and identification. The species composition, quantity, height, coverage, aboveground biomass and underground biomass of herbaceous plants in the community were investigated. The biomass of herbaceous plants in the Ulatte desert was analyzed by using statistical knowledge to study the effects of different communities and different spaces on the biomass of herbaceous plants in the Ulatte area. The distribution of biomass in this region is highly heterogeneous. It provides basic data services for desertification control, promoting the restoration of desert grassland ecosystem and the protection, utilization and research of plant resources in Wulat,Inner Mongolia. The main results were as follows:(1)There were 51 species of wild shrubs belonging to 11 families and 29 genera and 131 species of wild herbs belonging to 28 families and 79 genera in the Ulatte area.Among them, there are 8 species of endangered plants,6 species of woody plants, and 2 species of herbs cherished at the national level.(2)In the selected six shrub communities, the herbaceous biomass ranged between 47.83 and 226.91 g/m-2,with an average biomass of 148.21 g/m-2;the aboveground biomass ranged between 4.08 and 39.83 g/m-2,with an average of 13.99g/m-2;the underground biomass ranged between 43.75 and 215.83 m-2,with an average underground biomass of 126.90 g/m-2;and the total herbaceous biomass ranged between 110.62 and 257.94 g/m-2,with an average of 178.1 g/m-2,the underground biomass ranged between 102.50 and 253.75 g/m-2,with an average of168.84 g/m-2,and the aboveground biomass ranged between 4.18 and 17.71 g/m-2,with an average of 9.26 g/m-2.(3)In the shrub community, the herb layer biomass was significantly negatively correlated with the shrub cover and shrub biomass in this community(P<0.05),but not significantly correlated with the shrub height;it was extremely significantly positively correlated with the belowground biomass(P<0.01),and not significantly correlated with the herb height and aboveground biomass.(4)In the sample sites of herbaceous plant communities, because without the influence of shrub plant factors, the range of herbaceous biomass was between 32.39and 227.34 g/m-2,with an average of 107.19 g/m-2;the range of herbaceous aboveground biomass was between 5.72 and 39.84 g/m-2,with an average of 16.22g/m-2;and the range of underground biomass was between 26.67 and 187.50 g/m-2,with an average of 90.97 g/m-2;The root/shoot ratio ranged from 3.84 to 18.06,with a mean value of 5.99.The biomass of herbaceous plants is mostly present and underground.(5)Herb biomass was significantly negatively correlated with latitudinal gradient(P<0.05)and significantly positively correlated with longitude gradient(P<0.05);herb height was not significantly correlated with latitudinal gradient, but significantly positively correlated with longitude gradient(P<0.01);root-shoot ratio was negatively correlated with latitudinal gradient and positively correlated with longitude gradient.
