Karst means the process and products of a series of dissolution and corrosion. In China karst also means the dissolution of rock. The special ecological environment of the karst regions results in the special vegetation. China is abundant in karst. This paper selected two areas which with quite typical karst, the Maolan karst forestry region in Libo county, Guizhou province and the Shilin region in Yunnan province, aimed at their wild woody plants and researched into their flora. There were 74 families, 201genera and 398 species (subspecies also included in) of wild woody plants in Shilin region. The families that contained 10 or more than 10 species were: Papilionaceae,Rosacceae,Rutaceae,Lonicera,Fagaceae,Caprifoliaceae,Vitaceae,Oleaceae,Lauraceae and Rhamnaceae; the genera that contained 6 or more than 6 species were: Berberis,Indigofera,Rhododendron,Clematis,Jasminum,Smilax,Cotoneaster,Zanthoxylum and Berberidaceae. The geographical ingredient of the flora was multiplex. On the level of families, tropical ingredient accounted for 52.70% proportion, temperate ingredient for 24.32%; on the level of genera, tropical and temperate ingredients accounted for 51.24% and 31.34%. Tropical ingredient occupied the superiority. There were 96 families, 281genera and 630 species (subspecies also included in) of wild woody plants in the Maolan karst forestry region. The families that contained 10 or more than 10 species were: Rosacceae,Lauraceae,Rhamnaceae,Rubiaceae,Rutaceae,Fagaceae,Caprifoliaceae,Papilionaceae,Celastraceae,Verbenaceae,Vitaceae,Oleaceae,Euphorbiaceae and Theaceae; the genera that contain 6 or more than 6 species were: Rhamnus,Machilus,Viburnum,Rubus,Euonymus,Acer,Litsea,Ficus,Ilex,Pittosporum,Photinia,Zanthoxylum,Meliosma,Cinnamomum,Lindera,Millettia,Elaeagnus,Diospyros and Symplocos. The geographical ingredient of the flora was multiplex. On the level of family, tropical ingredient accounted for 57.29% proportion, temperate ingredient for 22.92%; on the level of genera, tropical and temperate ingredients accounted for 61.57% and 22.42%. Tropical ingredient occupied the absolute superiority.Through comparison, there were some comparative characters between the flora of this two regions as follows: (1) The Maolan karst forestry region was more abundant in woody plant flora than Shilin region; (2) They both had a large proportion of the families and genera which were containing only 1 species, the families which was containing 2—9 species, and the genera which was containing 2—5 species. This indicated that the woody plant flora of two regions were both deficient; (3) Among each kind of distribution area type, regardless of on the level of families, or on the level of genera, the Pantropic all occupied the maximum proportion. This indicated that the flora of woody plants in these two typical karst regions had the relation with tropics areas in history origin. The Maolan karst forestry region had the more tropical ingredient thus it was of a more obvious tropical nature; (4) They had the same 71 families, 136 genera and 83 species. Their coefficient of similarity of families and coefficient of similarity of genus were both high, which meant the high similarity of wood plant flora between each other.
