At the end of 2020,the State of Food and Agriculture in 2020 released by FAO,the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, clearly pointed out that the current problem of water shortage is a sharp contradiction.Nearly half of the world's more than 6billion people live in areas with water shortages, and about a third of those people live in agricultural areas where water is very scarce.China is also facing the practical problem of water shortage, water resources as an indispensable material in food production, and food is the life of the people, food production security is also closely related to the basic life of the people,so at this stage,China's agricultural water shortage problem needs to be solved. In jiangsu province in China's north and south climate transition area, precipitation of seasonal change is big, high water resources characteristics in the province, but the natural condition and the technical level and other factors, can really use less water, compared with a national average of 2000 m~3,only about 500 m~3per capita water capacity in jiangsu province, far below the national level,It belongs to the area of severe water shortage in China. In addition, with the rapid development of society and economy, people's weak awareness of water resources protection leads to predatory exploitation and unreasonable use of water resources, which leads to a series of problems such as low utilization efficiency and serious pollution of agricultural water resources. These problems seriously restrict the sustainable development of agriculture in Jiangsu Province.Based on the theory of water footprint, this paper systematically analyzed the utilization status of agricultural water resources in Jiangsu Province.Based on literature review and index evaluation method,Firstly, the software Clima Wat2.0 and Crop Wat8.0 were used to determine the unit virtual water amount of agricultural products in Jiangsu Province from2010 to 2018.Then,the virtual water amount of agricultural production, agricultural consumption and agricultural trade were calculated and analyzed combined with the relevant data in the yearbook literature. Finally, the agricultural water footprint of Jiangsu Province from 2010 to 2018 was calculated, and analyze the change trend and causes of agricultural water footprint in Jiangsu Province from 2010 to 2018,and based on the water footprint from the self-sufficiency rate of agricultural water resources, external dependence, internal benefit, external benefit, scarcity, stress, water resources growth, change and sustainability and other nine indicators,The index system of sustainable utilization was constructed from four aspects of structure, benefit, ecological security and sustainability. The agricultural water resources in Jiangsu Province from 2010 to 2018 were quantitatively evaluated. The conclusions were drawn that the structure of agricultural water resources in Jiangsu Province was stable, water resources were scarce, pressure was high and sustainability was not strong. To find out the problems and provide theoretical support and optimization measures for the sustainable and efficient utilization of agricultural water resources in Jiangsu Province.
