Abstract/Summary: | |
The feasibility of automatic coding as applied to the American Airlines baggage handling system is determined. Automatic coding is explained including equipment and considerations for automatic coding technology selection. Automatic bar code identification and radio frequency identification coding techniques are discussed in detail.;Bar code, radio frequency, optical character recognition and surface acoustic wave technologies were conceptually applied to the American Airlines baggage handling system. The baggage handling system is described and coding parameters are determined. Laboratory tests are performed to aid in the evaluation of radio frequency identification.;An antenna system is designed which will conceptually eliminate radio frequency tag to interrogator antenna orientation dependency. |
