Abstract/Summary:
The use of computers in controlling and optimizing Chemical Processes is hindered by the quality of data obtained from industrial and experimental measuring devices. Most of the data contain random errors and some have systematic errors resulting from equipment malfunction, drift or failure. In previous work at Texas A&I University, a computer algorithm was developed for non-linear gross error detection and data reconciliation.; In this work, the performance of the Modified Iterative Measurement Test (MIMT) algorithm on a non-equilibrium flash distillation system is assessed. There is also an estimation of flash efficiency, a variable which cannot be physically measured.; Different versions of constraint equations are used in simulating the flash distillation system and results for the overall performance as well as performance with regard to different types of variable is obtained.
