Abstract/Summary:
Project management is a domain in which expert assistance is highly valued. The primary objective of this research is to demonstrate a proof of concept for the systematic design, development, and testing of a project management consultation system. The knowledge base areas which are covered include: technical requirements, project planning, staff training and staff roles, project organization, software production models, other program requirements (like design-to-cost, interface with other groups, simulation), documentation, and common project management problems. The paper begins with a review of literature. Chapter 3 is a portrayal of the requirements and design for this system through the utilization of the IDEF methodology. Chapter 4 consists of a description of the implementation effort using a PC-based, expert-system tool. Chapter 5 includes a sample case study and consultation results. Finally, appendices are provided with sample design diagrams, sample program listings and sample computer screens.
