Abstract/Summary:
Within the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces (DND/CF), the responsibility for knowledge management (KM) has been assigned to the organization under the Assistant Deputy Minister Information Technology (ADM IT). In the fall of 2001 ADM IT established a project team to examine KM within the department.; The research objectives and the research questions driving this project were: (1) To provide a rationale and vision for KM within the DND/CF by answering two fundamental questions: (a) Within the DND, is there an evident connection between the development and implementation of a KM strategy, and the broader strategies and vision of the Department? (b) Should a Knowledge Management framework and strategy be implemented in the Department of National Defence? (2) To identify the constraints and barriers, investigate the opportunities and look for connections to existing and proposed initiatives by answering the questions: (a) What are the potential barriers to the sustainable implementation of a KM strategy? How can these barriers be prevented and/or mitigated? (b) What are the current and planned for enabling technologies within the DND? How could these technologies be used to support a KM framework, strategy and vision? (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
