A real-time video server/client was developed to transfer live video to clients over a local ATM network using Multicast IP Protocol. The server ran on a Silicon Graphic ONYX, and the clients ran on a Silicon Graphic ONYX and an INDY1. Sirius Video was used to capture live video from a VCR tape. Two compression algorithms, JPEG and MVC1, were used in both server and client.; The performance of the video server/client was evaluated. Frame rates for both server and clients, client delay time, and processing time for both server and clients are presented. The results show that MVC1 achieved the highest frame rate compared with JPEG and uncompressed data streams. Future work and suggestions are also presented.
