| Active networking technology introduces programmability inside the network enabling dynamic modification of network behavior and provisioning of new services. Management of such a dynamic environment as active network gives rise to a whole new dimension of issues that are to be addressed for the successful deployment of active networks. Hence an urgent need is felt for a new paradigm in network management of active networks.;This thesis addresses the various issues needed for successful management of active networks. It also proposes and discusses different approaches to managing active networks. An SNMP Extension approach will first be described. Some limitations of this approach are given. An Active Management Architecture is proposed as a viable solution for effective management of active networks. This architecture encompasses various components and mechanisms required in order to manage dynamic collection of services in the context of active networks. |
