With the network continuously development, the user demand on network has changed as well. More and more types of transmission information are required and higher service qualities are expected. However, the traditional network's shortcomings have been more evident, even though they limit the network further development. The traditional network user computations are limited on network terminals. It needs too long period from proposal via standardization to adoption a new technology and is difficult to add new service in the existing network. As regard as the network management, there're many deflects of the traditional centralized control, for example, the bottleneck of management center, the redundancy of management information and the time delay of management response. These deflects have reduced the network management efficiency. The active network systematically resolves the traditional network shortcomings from the system architecture. Its basic characteristic is that the active capsules can carry executable active codes so that users can program on the network relay nodes. It breaks the obturation of traditional network relay nodes system, therefore users can effectively control and customize the network behaviors, service and applications by dynamically programming according to the different application requirements and make network to be flexible. Based on the reading and the analyzing of domestic and foreign relative literatures, this paper has studied the active network characteristic and the behavior mechanism. It also defines an ANAM active network architecture model on the basis of ANTS. The ANAM model improves the code distribution mechanism of ANTS and proposes an active network code transmission mechanism which combines the integrated transmission and discrete transmission technology. In addition, it adds a dynamic management information database model which facilitates network management and provides a solid base for the subsequent development of active network security and active network applications. It also designs and implements resource management strategy of active nodes and active probe mechanism which makes it easier to control network and convenient to manager and provides a convenient control interface for active network applications. In the end, an on-line auction system is implemented on the ANAM model with Java and shell language. The system has been tested in terms of diverse performance.
