Abstract/Summary:
As an English graduate student with a Professional Writing concentration, the focus of my thesis consisted of developing methods to better prepare Southeastern upper-class group of students (junior, senior and graduate students) for the job search. During my internship at the Office of Career Services, I incorporated various expert theories on the concepts of audience analysis and document design in order to create job search guides which are specifically targeted towards certain majors. By creating these job guides, the students will be better prepared in today's competitive job market. From document designer to audience analyzer, I discuss the multiple roles a professional or technical writer must play in today's global Internet society. I review literature depicting professional writing techniques and theories which helped me find solutions to problems I encountered during my internship.
