Abstract/Summary:
This Capstone Project will identify and assess the cyber vulnerabilities, relevant legislature, and threat potential of vehicle computer systems, specifically relating to the connection of Internet of Things (IoT) devices to the vehicle in-network architecture. The increasing number of smart devices affords the opportunity to connect to vehicle computer infrastructures, thereby increasing the threat vulnerability and profile. However, with the correct security measures, vehicle manufacturers can reduce the threat profile from IoT devices. The Capstone Project will outline several potential types of malicious code and concepts that could be introduced through IoT devices connected to vehicle in-network systems in order to cause a variety of effects on the vehicle's systems. The research evaluates and reviews the current regulations and legislation that handle the vehicle's cybersecurity, vulnerabilities, and IoT devices. Analysis of the information shall identify the public's lack of general knowledge and understanding about cybersecurity of IoT devices and their vehicles.;Keywords: Cybersecurity, Vehicle, Motorist, Internet of Things, IoT, Professor Robert DeCarlo.
