Abstract/Summary:
The tourism industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the USA, and the internet plays an important constructive role in the industry's development. Although there are many travel-related websites that provide services for making reservations, booking hotels, etc., very few attempt to provide an itinerary customized to the traveler. The Multi-byway Travel Planner (MTP) system generates an itinerary in seconds after the user provides his preferences and interests. The MTP takes the user's profile as input and returns an itinerary along one or more of America's scenic byways. The itinerary reflects the user's interests, what he wished to see and what he wanted to do during the trip. Further, the itinerary generated will be within the time and location constraints of the user. This thesis describes the issues involved in generating a multi-byway itinerary such as the search space and search algorithms, and the implementation of those algorithms.
