Abstract/Summary:
The release of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) into the atmosphere is creating global climate change. National governments have banded together, through international treaties, to attempt to minimize the release of GHGs. The first step in reducing GHG emissions is to identify where emissions originate. The emission sources are identified through carbon audits, which are used to pinpoint actions that are required to reduce emissions. The task of auditing emissions has led to the creation of models to assist governments and corporations in auditing their emissions. Two common models that are used to audit carbon emissions are the Partnership for Climate Protection (PCP) model and the World Research Institute (WRI) model. This study compares and contrasts the carbon emission analyses that result from these two models. It outlines how carbon models can be designed to reach sustainable imperatives, accurately identify sources of GHG emissions and to verify GHG emissions.
