Abstract/Summary:
Each year the National Science Teachers Association and the Children's Book Council publish a list of the Outstanding Science Trade Books. This study examined the elementary- and intermediate-level physical science books released during the last 10 years to determine their accuracy as compared to the American Association for the Advancement of Science's benchmarks. Of the 17 books in the study, 8 were determined completely accurate compared to the standards, another 8 were at least 90% accurate, and only one book was less than 90% accurate. Other non-benchmark related errors were found in 16 of the 17 books, though most were minor.
