Abstract/Summary:
Over the past 20 years, childhood obesity has doubled in the United States and it is occurring in both boys and girls and among all racial and ethnic groups, although African American and Latino children are disproportionately affected. The purpose of this project was to develop a childhood obesity prevention program for pre-school children and their parents, collaborate with community partners, identify potential funding sources, and complete a grant proposal for Rancho Santiago Community College District, Child Development Services in Santa Ana, California. The unique design of the Nutri-Fit program will help to decrease the number of preschoolers at risk of becoming obese and motivate at risk families to improve their health and nutrition. The program will utilize nutrition education, physical activity, behavior modification, medical assessments and the assistance of Promotores to provide in home support. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.
