Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to design a program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to secure funding for a music therapy program at the Multipurpose Senior Services Program of Long Beach, California. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify the benefits of music therapy as an effective means of both decreasing agitation in individuals with dementia and decreasing the negative effects this behavior has on the caregiver. The goal of the proposed program is reducing agitation in individuals with dementia, improving their mood and overall well-being, and reducing caregiver stress.;An Internet search for potential funding sources resulted in the selection of the U.S. Administration on Aging as the best funding source for the project. A grant proposal was written to support a music therapy program. The actual submission and/or funding of the grant was not a requirement for successful completion of the project.
