| As a delightful form of social communication,humor is increasingly valued from researchers and practitioners in recent years.The combination of humor theory and leadership theory also provides a new way to improve the effectiveness of management and leadership,so leader humor arises.A number of studies have found that leader humor has a number of positive effects,such as employees’ work attitude,job performance and creativity and so on.However,the existing research has paid little attention to the relationship between leader humor and employees’ psychological state.As a psychological state in which both the sense of vitality and the sense of learning are experienced at the same time,thriving at work has an important impact on employees and the organization.So,does leader’s humor have a positive effect on employees’ thriving at work?How does leader humor promote employees’ thriving at work?Based on the social embedded model of thriving at work,the broaden-and-bulid theory of positive emotions and the self-concept theory,this study explores the influence of leader humor on employees’ thriving at work,and reveals the roles of positive emotions and organization-based self-esteem in this process.Throughing empirically analyzing the suvey stata of 250 full-time employees,the following conclusions are drawn :(1)leader humor has significant positive impacts on employees’ thriving at work and sense of learning and sense of vitality;(2)the positive emotions and organization-based self-esteem of employees have significant mediation effects on the relationships between the leader humor and employees’ thriving at work and sense of learning and sense of vitality,and the mediation effects is competitive mediation effects;(3)there is no significant difference in the mediation effects of positive emotions and organization-based self-esteem.This study not only enriched the study on the outcome variables of leader humor from the perspective of psychological experience,but also expanded the effective ways to promote employees’ thriving at work from the perspective of leadership.At the same time,starting from the broaden-and-bulid theory of positive emotions and the self-concept theory,this paper builds the mediating path of positive emotions and organization-based self-esteem,revealing the mechanism of leader humor promoting employees’ thriving at work,and also provides inspiration for future research to explore other mediating mechanisms.Through the results of this study,enterprises can attach importance to and train theappropriate use of humor by leaders to make the achievement of employees’ thriving at work,so as to promote the sustainable development of employees and organizations. |
