With the rapid economic development in China,the development speed of Zhangdian District of Zibo City is also increasing,and the number of migrant workers is increasing.The education situation of children of migrant workers and how to ensure that they complete education in a quality and quantity manner have become the focus of education quality improvement and service improvement in Zhangdian District.Extracurricular reading helps to improve students’ quality and academic performance.However,as a relatively special group of students,migrant workers’ children are difficult to ensure that they have received formal and systematic primary education before,so their extracurricular reading situation is really worrying.Contemporary middle school students live in the era of rapid development of information,and the children of migrant workers face a new world naturally to cope with more diverse temptations,they receive a huge amount of information,they are exposed to a wide range of sources of information.With the deepening of the educational reform,the guarantee of the quantity and quality of extracurricular reading,the communication and integration of extracurricular and intracurricular contents have been paid more and more attention by the whole educational circles and the whole society.The state also calls for and implements extracurricular reading measures at the government level.The Chinese Curriculum Standards for Full-time Compulsory Education(2011 edition)makes detailed and specific requirements for extracurricular reading of middle school students,which makes extracurricular reading face a new situation.Extracurricular reading is an important support for migrant workers’ children to learn Chinese and improve their language performance,and its importance is well known.This paper takes the Sixth Middle School of Zhangdian District of Zibo City as the object of investigation,and makes a thorough investigation and Study on the extracurricular reading situation of migrant workers’ children in the middle school stage.Firstly,we collect and sort out the relevant literature on the extracurricular reading of migrant workers’ children at home and abroad,and recognize the current situation and problems of the academic research on the extracurricular reading of migrant workers’ children at the middle school stage.By means of questionnaires and interviews,this paper investigates the emotional status,time arrangement,selection of books,resources,habits,quality and effect of extracurricular reading of migrant workers’ children.Through the survey,we found that the following problems exist in the children’s extracurricular reading: the children of migrant workers do not attach importance to extracurricular reading and lack the consciousness of independent reading;the students’ extracurricular reading time is seriously insufficient and the reading quantity can notkeep up with it;the extracurricular reading is unplanned and does not form good reading habits;the students can not get parents and teachers when choosing extracurricular books.Normative guidance;students’ extracurricular reading,let alone the collaborative support of large-scale library resources and network platform.The main reasons for these problems are as follows: the students themselves are relatively young,and their self-development consciousness is still in the stage of cultivation;the parents of migrant children are busy for their livelihood,and their education level is relatively low;the targeted guidance of schools and teachers is far from enough.In order to solve the problem of extra-curricular reading of the children of migrant workers,the first task is to cultivate the good attitude of the children of migrant workers and improve their reading initiative and consciousness;secondly,we should give full play to the strong role of the construction of Shuxiang Campus to create a pleasant and relaxed reading atmosphere for them;thirdly,we should pay attention to the extra-curricular reading of these children from schools and teachers.Finally,efforts should be made to integrate and collect reading resources from enterprises,society,government and other aspects to form a joint educational force.It is hoped that this study can provide practical improvement measures for the children of migrant workers in secondary schools to read after class.
